Animal
Waste Management
Website: http://tammi.tamu.edu
Principal Investigators:
Dr.
Saqib Mukhtar
The Texas Animal
Manure Management Issues (TAMMI) Website provides agricultural waste
management education and information. The Website is continuously
updated with research-based information and educational materials.
These materials include publications, federal and state rules affecting
livestock and poultry operations, and research on animal waste management
and related air and water quality issues.
Dairy Compost
Utilization by the Public and Public Entities
Website: http://compost.tamu.edu
Principal Investigators: Dr.
Saqib Mukhtar
The Texas A&M
University System Agriculture Program is working with the Texas
Commission on Environmental Quality to build sustainable
markets for composted dairy manure
by identifying and linking the needs of public entities with the
composting industry.
Irrigation
District Engineering and Assistance Program
Website: http://idea.tamu.edu
Principal Investigator: Dr.
Guy Fipps
The Irrigation
District Engineering and Assistance Program includes educational
services and technical assistance for irrigation districts, and
applied research in GIS-based management systems and rapid assessment
methods for prioritized rehabilitation projects based on water saving
potential.
Irrigation
Technology Center
Website: http://itc.tamu.edu
Principal Investigator: Dr. Guy Fipps
The mission
of the Irrigation Technology Center is to promote efficient irrigation
and water conservation while maintaining profitable agricultural
production and quality urban landscapes; help coordinate irrigation
research and extension programs of the Texas A&M University
System; develop new facilities, capabilities and programs for irrigation
research, education and service; establish an equipment testing
and verification program, and develop minimum design and performance
standards for irrigation systems.
New Technologies
Website: http://twri.tamu.edu/projects/NewTechnologies.pdf
Principal Investigator: Dr.
Saqib Mukhtar
Large concentrations of dairies in Central Texas have led to concerns
about high levels of
phosphorus runoff into the North Bosque River watershed. In addition,
several other Texas
regions are dealing with problems caused by excess concentrations
of nutrients in rivers
and lakes . Technologies for reducing nutrient levels in wastes
from concentrated animal
feeding operations and other sources need to be identified, evaluated,
and field-tested.
Once assessments are completed, results need to be communicated
to dairy managers
and other stakeholders.
North
Central Texas Water Quality Project
Website: http://nctx-water.tamu.edu
Principal Investigator: Dr.
Russell Persyn
Water quality
in North Central Texas reservoirs is a growing concern. Six of
the major
reservoirs in the Trinity River basin managed
by Tarrant Regional Water District (TRWD) now serve 1.6 million
people across 11 counties and are expected to serve 2.66 million
by 2050. Texas Water Resources Institute and the Agriculture Program
at Texas A&M University are collaborating with TRWD to study
water quality protection and improvements in these six reservoirs
in regard to the major problems of sediment and nutrient loading.
Sediment loading affects capacity and water clarity; nutrient loading
results in algae growth that impacts water treatment and recreational
use.
Onsite
Wastewater Program
Web site: http://ossf.tamu.edu
Principal Investigator: Dr. Bruce
Lesikar
The Onsite Wastewater
Treatment Web site provides information on the technologies available
for managing wastewater so people can make informed decisions when
selecting, operating and maintaining their onsite wastewater treatment
systems.
Stormwater
Web site: http://stormwater.tamu.edu
Principal Investigator: Dr. Russell
Persyn
This Website
is part of a series of educational materials on the impacts of stormwater
and best management practices for reducing these impacts. Regulations
set by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency are also covered.
Texas
Water Resources Education
Web site: http://texaswater.tamu.edu
Principal Investigator: Dr. Russell
Persyn; Dr. Bruce Lesikar
This Website
is part of an educational effort to provide information on a variety
of issues affecting water in Texas. Subjects range from groundwater
to stormwater to wastewater.
